As part of their 70 Years Celebrations, Fatfield Musical Stage Society staged a summer concert as a tribute to the past and as a toast to the future at Trinity Methodist Church Shiney Row.
It turned out to be a fine evening as existing and past members of the Group and the general public were treated to a lovely and varied programme of musical numbers which demonstrated the fine choral singing of the Society interspersed with some good solo/duet/group numbers.
Devised and compiled by Musical Director Tim Jasper the composition of the show had numbers ranging from the Mikado right through to more recent productions such as Wicked and 9 to 5. With Tim providing the accompaniment the cast of three men and sixteen ladies produced a lovely sound in the Group numbers especially Wunderbar from Kiss Me Kate, The Merry Widow Waltz and What I Did For Love from A Chorus Line. (Soloists Emma Monaghan, Pam Monaghan and Claire Taylor) Solo wise they were all pleasant on the ear.
I do not normally like to single out individuals in concerts as I feel it is a group effort that should be recognised but there were a number of them which because of the poignancy of the lyrics and the setting of shows from which they came hit the mark for me. These were Anne Taylor’s rendition of Losing my Mind from Follies, Paul Maddison for his interpretation of On the Street Where You live from My Fair Lady, The Sound of Music by Barbara Simpson and Katherine Dolphin’s I’m Not that Girl from Wicked.
Overall a lovely night which would make your predecessors from the past 70 years proud.
